"The proposed I-45 expansion will not benefit Acres Home. It will bypass us."

Acres Home was built by Sharecroppers around the time of World War I. People bought land and built their own homes to create a community for African Americans. Most of the residents in Acres Home have been in the neighborhood for generations. Most people are homeowners. There is a lot of history and pride in the community. The neighborhood is filled with trees and squirrels. People own horses.

The proposed I-45 expansion will not benefit Acres Home. It will bypass us. Constructions and changes to the freeway will force longtime residents to change their travel habits and make it more difficult to get around and outside the neighborhood. Previous experiences with the Texas Department of Transportation have been unpalatable. They have not incorporated community input into any project.

"They have not incorporated community input into any project."
