What makes Near Northside special is the sense of community. People have lived in the neighborhood for generations and they take care of each other. Neighbors check in on neighbors. They have each other’s backs. People celebrate holidays and birthdays together. We host summer barbeques. We enjoy the trails along White Oak Bayou. And we have easy access across North Street bridge to Woodland Heights and other areas.
We are worried about losing our sense of community because of displacement. We are worried about losing access within Near Northside and neighboring areas. We are worried about impacts to greenways and flooding. Community members want to see existing infrastructure, like the Hardy Toll Road, utilized to its fullest potential instead of adding more concrete to the city.
